I Was Interviewed by Visual Art Journal 🥹🎨

This one feels very special.

I was recently interviewed by Visual Art Journal about my work as a watercolour pet portrait artist, the story behind Annalise Paints and why capturing the tiny details of our pets means so much to me.

The interview gave me the chance to talk about something I don’t always stop and reflect on: my artwork itself.

We chatted about why I paint pets, what I look for when choosing the details to focus on, why I love working with watercolour and what I hope people feel when they see their finished portrait.

Of course, Lunar is also a big part of that story. Losing her changed the way I thought about keepsakes and made me realise just how meaningful the smallest details of our pets can become.

One of my favourite questions was what I hope someone thinks when they see their portrait for the first time.

My answer was simple:

“That is SO them.”

That is always the goal.

To capture the expression, markings, wonky ears and little details that make your pet completely unmistakable.

Being featured by an art publication and having my work recognised in this way feels incredibly surreal.

Sometimes I get so caught up in running Annalise Paints that I forget to stop and think…

I’m an artist.

And that feels pretty special. 🥹🤍
